Jozsef Baranyi, Institute of Food Research, United Kingdom
József Baranyi joined the Institute of Food Research in 1990. His main research field is the mathematical modelling of microbial responses to food environments and the network analysis of food safety- and security- related complexities.
He has been invited and keynote speaker, scientific and organizing committee member in numerous international conferences, coordinated / participated in several projects funded by UK government, EU and industry. He has held ca 100 predictive modelling and ComBase workshops all around the world. He was the Statistical Advisor of the Journal of Applied Microbiology 1996 – 2010, member of the Editorial Board of Applied and Environmental Microbiology through 15 years. Author of ca 80 refereed research papers, with a total citation exceeding 3500. The Baranyi model on bacterial growth is one of the most frequently quoted models in predictive microbiology.
Member of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology the prime advisory body of the International Union of Food Science and Technology, and recipient of the “Distinguished Service Award” of the American Society for Microbiology.
